What are the most important questions to ask during your first visit to a lawyer?

I’m finally booking a meeting with a lawyer next week — it’s about a small property dispute with my neighbor. Never had to deal with legal stuff before, so I’m not sure what to even ask. I don’t want to waste the appointment talking about the wrong things. Should I focus more on the process, like how long it’ll take, or on costs and payment? Also, do people usually bring documents, or is that something the lawyer requests later?

When I went through something similar (in my case it was a contract issue for my small business), I learned that preparation makes all the difference. I asked how strong my case was, what my realistic options were, and how communication would work — like whether updates come by email or phone. If you’re still looking around, you might want to check out Lawyers in Hope, BC. Some of them list their areas of expertise and even offer a free consultation, which helps to get a feel for their approach before committing.
